Aircraft/Technology Name: American Airco DH-4 Liberty Biplane

Era & Significance: The DH-4 aircraft was manufactured from British design in Moraine City, south of Dayton, Ohio, USA by the Dayton-Wright Airplane Co. The DH4 was the only U.S.-built aircraft to fight in WW1, and of the 1213 shipped to France, only 417 saw combat, including this one. It utilized the 450 HP Liberty engine referred to simply as "USA 12". This biplane was flown by the 476th pursuit squadron "The Black Falcons" of the 322nd pursuit group of the Army Air Reserve stationed at Clover Field, Santa Monica, California in the mid to late 1920s.
