About Us

Chicago is home to so much of African American culture and history. Chicago is where the first major black newspaper, the Chicago Defender was published.  The Thompson Collection has acquired photographs taken by Chicago Defender photographer Hank Martin from 1969 - 1977.  Currently we have footage of the Bud Billiken parade immediately after World War II.  At the Thompson Collection we want to offer this precious history to the public for sale or limited use.  Through historical photographs, images, art, and memorabilia we capture the historical footprint of the African American experience in Chicago.

Larry Thompson filmed for upcoming documentary on collection of Chicago Defender photos.
